The Butler Frogs

The Butler Frogs were formed in 2011 to support individual original work, but they soon began collaborating and released their first EP Last Call For Opinions in 2022.

This versatile band of New England musicians consists of Chuck Clough, David G. Moore, Tim Fiehler, Greg Mara, Ronnie Hirschberg, and honorary Frog Jonathan Beakley.

The Band:

Chuck Clough - guitar and vocals

Chuck is a singer-songwriter from Boston and formerly played in Northern Point (2005-2010), an acoustic trio from the NY/NJ area.  Northern Point released three albums (November, Northern Point: Live at St. James' Gate, and After The Frost). In 2010, Chuck returned to his Boston area roots and co-founded The Butler Frogs, opening for touring bands like America, The Wallflowers, and The Gin Blossoms. In 2020, Chuck won a Boston Music Award for Podcast/Radio Show of the Year for Above The Basement - Boston Music and Conversation.

David G. Moore/MALIN - guitar and vocals

Originally from Northern Ireland, Dave always wanted to move to the US to sing and play guitar when he grew up. He made it here, though he's still working on the growing-up part. His songs pair guitar-driven, pop-rock melodies with lyrics that are both witty and emotionally affecting. With D.C.-based Jonasay he opened for Vertical Horizon, Jump Little Children, and Hootie & the Blowfish, and with his current project, Malin, he has shared the stage with The Wallflowers, Gin Blossoms, America, and Livingston Taylor. He plays with a full band or acoustically, depending on the night.

Tim Fiehler - bass and vocals

Tim is a prolific musician and an all-around ladies' man.  He is about 6 feet tall, wears an Abe Lincoln like a champ, and smells like a spring morning.  Always happy, he enjoys fishing, pointing at people, and collecting small towels. While traveling in Italy last year, Tim was incarcerated for being too awesome for words. He was released on his own recognizance and cannot return until he becomes less awesome.  Tim will not be able to return. He is an expert balloon animal maker and is available for parties, although not in Italy.

Greg Mara - percussion and vocals

Greg Mara has played drums and percussion since he was 10 years old in various bands and groups across various musical genres.  Greg met Chuck, David, and Tim while sitting in on percussion at Main Streets Cafe's weekly open mic, and the rest is history. Greg cites his main drumming influences as John Bonham, Carter Beauford,  Gary Spellisey, and his father, Kevin, who is also an accomplished drummer. Greg lives in Bedford, MA, where he often jams with his son, Charlie.

Ronnie Hirschberg - keys and vocals

After learning "a chord" at the piano around age 15 in Western NY, Ronnie decided to "retire" the clarinet and set up a Casio keyboard in the basement to form his first band, "The Underground." After moving to Burlington, VT, for school, he found a songwriting-improvisation balance with his band, ironically called "Chuck." They played at various colleges in New England and NY. In 1995, he recorded a self-titled compilation of jazz-influenced pop songs. In 2011, Ronnie began collaborating with musicians outside of Boston, continues as a singer-songwriter, and has been a proud Butler Frog since 2012!

Jonathan Beakley - drums

Jonathan Beakley ("JB") is currently the drummer for Half Rusted and 7 of 7. JB also participates in side projects with other bands, including Malin, The Butler Frogs, Laura Poisson and the LPs, Milhous, and Speedfossil. Previous to his work with these ensembles, JB played with the Hip Replacements (Carlisle, MA) 2004-2019, Remnant (Atlanta, GA) 1992-1993, and Persona Non Grata (New Haven, CT) 1987-1991. JB studied for five years with drum instructor Adam Clark, with whom he designed and built the Projammer app, which helps people practice the drums.
